We're prolific readers and podcast consumers at the Godrej Foundation, and we have a weekly list of recommendations for you. Here is this week's catalogue:

• Justicemakers, a zine by Agami
For most ordinary Indians, understanding the complexities of the law and accessing justice through the formal legal system is overwhelming, intimidating and at times impossible. Justicemakers features the stories of ten enterprising justice warriors who are working to change this. Published in collaboration with The Alipore Post, this zine weaves diverse styles of textual and visual storytelling to bring to life the journeys of the people who are making law and justice more accessible to their own communities.

• Contentious book reviews
In a world facing increasing scarcity of resources, why aren't we simply building more of what we need? This question is at the heart of Abundance, a new book by American journalists Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson that has now become the subject of passionate debate in the US. Journalist Noah Smith's review, for instance, lauds the book for its concise arguments on why liberals and progressives end up obstructing the creation of more affordable housing and clean energy. On the other hand, Malcolm Harris' review in The Baffler offers a sharp takedown of the abundance agenda – "more stuff", he says, is "the last thing society needs".

• Essay: How Kerala got rich
In the span of 50 years, one of India's poorest states grew to become one of its richest. In this longform essay, economist Tirthankar Roy and Kerala's state planning board member K Ravi Raman, explore the economic history of Kerala, a state that has long been considered different from the rest of the country. The essay is a peek into the subject matter of Roy and Raman's new book, Kerala, 1956 to the Present: India's Miracle State.
